In 2024, the National Film School of Denmark will open a new program in Production Design. The program will admit the first six students in August 2024.
As a production designer, you must be able to develop, organize and lead the implementation of a production design that contributes to the film's narrative and artistic vision. You will be challenged to clarify the visual narrative and acquire the necessary knowledge and methodology to realize it. You will learn to maintain the vision and lead, challenge and inspire the specialized artistic forces that collaborate to bring the project to life.
You must thrive in the creative collaborations and be eager to explore how they can best be realized to expand and improve your artistic ambition. As a production designer at the National Film School of Denmark, you will be trained to be responsible for all design elements in a film, series or related media. You will participate in joint teaching, practical assignments and projects within fiction, documentary and animation. In subject-specific teaching, the main emphasis is on production design theory and methods. There will be a progression during the program in line with the scope and complexity of the projects.
You will learn to communicate with photography, drawings, models, and other visual means as well as acquire basic knowledge of design history and the history of art and architecture. The development of your artistic expression is achieved through the acquisition of working methods and training in design tools and techniques.
Media and technology developments create new storytelling models, formats and forms of collaboration, which leads to continuous development of the Production Designer program. The program reflects the profession's tasks, artistic expression and responsibilities. As a graduate production designer, you will be able to develop and realize complex artistic production design concepts while acting as a leader in the film and TV industry, nationally and internationally.
