Crucial Casting

Join us for an inspiring afternoon with some of the industry's most significant filmmakers and an exclusive line-up of international casting directors. In collaboration with The Danish National School of Performing Arts' continuing education, we focus on the casting process and take a loving but critical look at the Danish and international dynamics as well as the written and unwritten rules in the industry.

The seminar aims to examine differences and similarities between international and national casting processes. We wish to open up a dialogue between the industry's actors and seek to create a platform for the development of the casting processes in Denmark and the Nordics.

The day begins with a keynote with casting director Sharon Bialy (US), known for her work on iconic series such as Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead.

Among other things, you can look forward to meeting:

  • Pauline Hansson, internationally renowned casting director, known for her work on Ruben Östlund's The Square and Triangle of Sadness.
  • Victor Jenkins, prominent British casting director, known for his work on a number of films and television series, including The Crown and Fleabag.
  • Iris Baumüller, founder of Die Besetzer Casting, based in Berlin and Cologne, and is one of Germany's leading casting directors.
  • A number of Danish filmmakers, including Frederik Louis Hviid, Mikael Noer, Selma Trier, Nivertha Balasubramaniam and Mikkel Serup.

The seminar's moderators are the Danish actress Sandra Yi Sencindiver and actor and producer Maj-Britt Mathiesen.

Questions for debate:

  • How does the casting process work in Denmark and abroad? Is it optimal, or can we do better?
  • What is a respectful, equal and artistic casting process?
  • How do we create healthy, strong and transparent casting processes?
  • How can we inspire more original and diverse casts in the film industry of the future?

In connection with the seminar, we’re offering casting workshops with Sharon Bialy on April the 7th and 8th and with both Pauline Hansson and Iris Baumöller on April 10.
All casting workshops can be found here: https://ddsks.dk/en/courses.

Program:

13:00 - 18:00
Coffee will be served before the seminar begins, and there will be a coffee break later as well. After the seminar there will be refreshments in the foyer.

Who is the seminar for?

The seminar is mainly aimed at people who are involved in casting processes such as casting directors, directors, producers, and actors, but is also relevant to anyone who is interested in these processes and wants to learn more about casting practices.
